Ready For Winter

My summer ridings over,

Time to pull my ponies’ shoes.

Patch my tack and try to shake,

The early winter blues.

I finally got the wood shed full,

Just need to find a bit more hay,

To keep my horses fat and happy,

‘til the green grass comes in May.

I’ll spend the winter writing rhymes,

About long days in the saddle,

While my partners doze beside the barn,

And discuss the ways of cattle!
