Heading to Elko

A seed planted in the desert,

some twenty six years ago,

Advertised as;

 A gathering of Cowboy poets,

No telling, if any would show?

They were, cautiously optimistic,

 They rented a tiny hall,

And rustled up some chairs,

A couple dozen in all.

I hear, forty came the first year,

And the idea soon took hold.

Now folks gather by the thousands,

Where cowboy rhymes are told.

PS. There are several hundred cowboy poetry gatherings throughout Canada and USA , but the biggest and best , is still the National Cowboy Gathering  in Elko Nevada, where it all started 26 years ago.

I am honoured to be one of the featured performers at Elko this year! MP
