The Strenuous Life?

The Strenuous Life?

The round corral is a sheet of ice,

It seems winter aint quite gone,

I've got two fillies in to start their training,

but the crusty snow keeps hanging on.

We haven't started calving yet,

and though the wood piles kind of low,

I'm holding of on cutting more,

Until there aint so darn much snow!

There, I've stacked up my excuses,

for avoiding other things that I should do,

instead of sitting here in the kitchen.

trying to craft a rhyme or two.

That's the hardest part of being a poet,

Is just to keep the guilt at bay,

and accept the fact that

That it really is your job,

to sit and think all day!
